{"id":1145,"date":"2017-12-31T17:35:26","date_gmt":"2017-12-31T17:35:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rungigettorun.com\/?p=1145"},"modified":"2017-12-31T17:35:26","modified_gmt":"2017-12-31T17:35:26","slug":"2017-summary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/2017\/12\/31\/2017-summary\/","title":{"rendered":"2017 Summary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been very lazy and not posted anything new for a while even if I had a lot of things I could have talked about.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll try to be more consistent and write more often in 2018, at least after each race.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a summary of my 2017 as a runner.<\/p>\n<h3>January<\/h3>\n<p>The year started really well, training was going great and I ran the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/840289560\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Denbies 10 mile<\/a> race on the North Downs finishing first in my category and seventh overall. Felt like Rocky Balboa. I finished the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/984569852\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NDW50<\/a>\u00a0more than an hour faster than the first time. I was <a href=\"http:\/\/rungigettorun.com\/2017\/06\/01\/north-downs-way-50-2017\/\">happy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1151\" src=\"http:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/centr-17-ndw50-finish-172.jpg\" alt=\"CENTR-17-NDW50-FINISH-172\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/centr-17-ndw50-finish-172.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/centr-17-ndw50-finish-172-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/centr-17-ndw50-finish-172-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/centr-17-ndw50-finish-172-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>June<\/h3>\n<p>I kept training pretty consistent and ran the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/1042646136\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hampshire Hoppit Trail Marathon<\/a> in the hottest day ever. I ran out of water between every aid station, got sun burnt but still had <a href=\"http:\/\/rungigettorun.com\/2017\/06\/26\/the-hampshire-hoppit-marathon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a blast<\/a>, beautiful places.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1152\" src=\"http:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/34544031404_3db767d23f_o.jpg\" alt=\"34544031404_3db767d23f_o\" width=\"5184\" height=\"3456\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>July<\/h3>\n<p>I ran my first 100k race, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/1085032237\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Race to the Stones<\/a> and survived. Actually I did better than survive it, I ran it all and enjoyed it massively.<\/p>\n<p>I also ran the now classic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/1108500788\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wimbledon Common Half Marathon<\/a>, slower than usual and things started looking bad for my left knee.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1153\" src=\"http:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/43.jpg\" alt=\"43\" width=\"960\" height=\"638\" srcset=\"https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/43.jpg 960w, https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/43-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/43-768x510.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>August<\/h3>\n<p>I paced <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ManuOnTrail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manu<\/a> on his epic run to complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/1120083439\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NDW100<\/a>, but in the process injured completely my left knee and stopped running for the rest of the month.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1155\" src=\"http:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/img_9584.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_9584\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/img_9584.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/img_9584-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/img_9584-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/img_9584-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/img_9584-1200x900.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>September<\/h3>\n<p>After numerous attempts to get back to running and many acupuncture and physio visits I was still unable to run more than 5k. So with an average of 4k a week for the past 6 weeks I went and ran the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/1187192447\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CW50<\/a>. I completed it much slower than last year and in the process f**d up my other knee.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1156\" src=\"http:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/centr-17-cw50-turville-136.jpg\" alt=\"CENTR-17-CW50-turville-136\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/centr-17-cw50-turville-136.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/centr-17-cw50-turville-136-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/centr-17-cw50-turville-136-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/centr-17-cw50-turville-136-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>October<\/h3>\n<p>More injury time and no running. Terrible month, when both your knees hurt when you are sleeping you know things are not going well. I also DNS the Stort 30 miler.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1157\" src=\"http:\/\/luigifumero.com\/run\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/img_9789.jpg?w=225\" alt=\"IMG_9789\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>November<\/h3>\n<p>I managed to start running more and even got as far as running two 90k weeks back to back. Then got the flue again and spent more time in bed. Yes, I ran my first 100k and completed the Centurion Grand Slam 50, but apart from the NDW50 I did not feel like I ran any of the races the way I was supposed to. I trained very well the first 6 months, but \u00a0got unlucky with my health on race days. Adjusting to the new job also made it harder to be consistent. One day I will go back and do the Grand Slam better, but not next year because\u2026<\/p>\n<h3>What about 2018?<\/h3>\n<p>Well next year will be great, the greatest actually. It will mark my 10<sup>th<\/sup> year as a runner and I have a very busy racing schedule. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Bcs53omnWFJ\/?hl=en&amp;taken-by=gigetto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">See photo<\/a> (more to come). The main race is going to be the SDW100, my very first 100 miler. I am scared s**tless but I cannot wait.
